Class Descriptions
Hunter Class Specifications
The courses offered at this show will consist of at least eight fences with two changes of directions. The area of the courtesy circle may be restricted by a mandatory line and will be indicated on the course diagram and designated by a physical barrier placed in the arena. Course diagrams will be posted at least one hour before the class. If entries warrant, a Junior division will be opened.
Hunter Warm-Up
Open to all exhibitors. The warm-up class will be open card, unlimited number of rounds, and will run for the duration of the day.
2′ Pleasure Hunter Hack
For Juniors and Amateurs. Horses will be shown at the walk, trot, and canter, then will be asked to individually jump two single fences. To be shown at 2′ in height. To be judged on performance and soundness. Horses will not be jogged. Trotting jumps and simple changes of lead will not be penalized. Martingales are not permitted.
Junior/Amateur Cross Rail Hunters 2X Around
For Juniors and Amateurs. To be shown at 1’6″ in height. Riders will jump 4 outside fences, twice around. To be judged on performance and soundness. Horses will not be jogged. Trotting jumps and simple changes of lead will not be penalized. Under Saddle class to be shown at the walk and trot only. Horse/Rider combination may not enter or show in any other class at this show with fences over 2’3″.
Junior/Amateur Cross Rail Hunters Course

Handy Hunter
For Juniors and Amateurs. To be shown at 2’6″ or 3′ in height. The course may include a halt, trot jump, hand gallop and/or other tests. To be judged on performance and soundness. Horses will not be jogged.
Junior/Amateur 3′ Hunters
For Juniors and Amateurs. To be shown at 3′ in height. To be judged on performance and soundness. Horses will not be jogged.
Open 3′ Hunters
To be shown at 3′ in height. To be judged on performance and soundness. Horses will not be jogged.
$1,500 Hunter Derby
Open to all riders. To be shown at either 2’6″ or 3′. The course will have at least 2 option fences set at 2″ to 3″ above respective heights. Height must be indicated on the horse show entry form.
First Round: Hunter Derby Course
All riders will jump a course of at least ten fences. Obstacles must simulate those reminiscent of the hunt field and course must offer a variety of Classic jumps with different appearances such as: natural post and rail, stone wall, white board fence or gate, coop, Aikens, hedge, oxer, brush, logs, natural foliage;
Second Round: Handy Hunter Course
The course should simulate riding over hunt country and must have a minimum of two handy options, such as tight turns, different tracks, clever options for jump approaches, pen type obstacles, hand gallop a jump, trot a lowered obstacle not to exceed 2′ or 2’6″ in height, respectively, halt, and or back.
The top 20 horses from the First Round, after all ties are broken, are eligible to return for Second Round.
Awards
Ribbons will be awarded for 1st-6th place.
Prize money will be distributed as follows: 1st-30%, 2nd- 25%, 3rd- 20%, 4th- 15%, 5th- 5%, 6th: 5%
If fewer than 10 riders, the purse becomes an 100% Add Back.

Hunter Seat Equitation

Professional/Amateur Equitation Challenge
Open to all riders. To be shown over a medal type course at 2’6″ in height. Everyone is encouraged to come watch the trainers try to sit up straight like they tell us to do!
Medal Classes
TCHS 2′ Junior/Amateur Medal
Open to Junior and Amateur riders over a course requiring at least 2 changes of direction. A work off of the top riders is at the judge’s discretion. No cross entry between height sections.
TCHS 2’6″ Junior/Amateur Medal
Open to Junior and Amateur riders over a course requiring at least 2 changes of direction. A work off of the top riders is at the judge’s discretion. No cross entry between height sections.
TCHS 3′ Junior/Amateur Medal
Open to Junior and Amateur riders over a course requiring at least 2 changes of direction. A work off of the top riders is at the judge’s discretion. No cross entry between height sections.
TCHS Junior/Amateur Flat Medal
Open to Junior and Amateur riders working collectively as a group. Riders may be asked to demonstrate extended and collected gaits, turns on the forehand and/or haunches and to work without irons, and other tests at the judge’s discretion. Riders will not be required to dismount or mount or to change horses.
Jumper Division
In all jumper classes, ties involving first place will be jumped off. In ties other than first place, competitors will be classified by penalties and time in the initial course. If entries warrant, a Junior division will be opened.
Jumper Tables
Refer to time schedule. Management reserves the right to change tables in all jumper classes with adequate notice to exhibitors.
Orders of Go
If entries warrant orders of go will be drawn and posted one hour before the class.
Speed
For all jumper classes the time allowed will be measured at 383 yards/minute (350 meters/minute)

Jumper Stakes Warm-Up
Open to all riders. To be shown at either 1.00M.
Showmanship
Open to all riders. Horses will be asked to lead at the walk and trot in a straight line. Competitors will be judged on how well they exhibit the horse to the best of its advantage, with additional scoring for grooming and presentation of both horse and handler. The horse’s soundness, muscling, and balance are noted as well as the ability of the handler to control the horse’s body and mind.
Thoroughbred Showmanship
Horses will be judged on 60% conformation and 40% performance presentation. Handlers and horses may be asked to complete a pattern. If entries warrant, the class will be divided into a 3-year-old and under division and a 4-year-old and over division.
War Horse Showmanship
Limited to horses with over 25 starts or greater than $100,000 in earnings. Horses will be judged on 60% conformation and 40% performance presentation. Handlers and horses may be asked to complete a pattern.
Spirit of a Champion
Horses and handlers will be honored and celebrated for their spirit, love, and bond for each other. Not all horses can transition into a second careers after their days at the track are over. Horses eligible for this class are horses that are either limited to the walk/trot classes or are not able to compete due to physical limitations. We ask that each handler complete the Biography Form so we can share this information with spectators during your class. Please email us at nrietkerk@carma4horses.org to share your horse’s story. There will be no fee for this class.
Leadline Class
Horses must be led by a suitable handler. There will be no fee charged for children to participate in this class
Dressage
Both Junior/Amateur and Professional divisions will be offered for Training Level, First Level, and Second Level. Introductory Level is open only to Junior/Amateurs. Depending on entries, court sizes may be changes within the parameters of USDF/USEF regulations.

$1,000 Dressage Challenge
A horse must compete at their current level of training. Ex: A horse schooling Second Level may not enter the Training Level Division.

Prize money will be split. Training and First Level compete against each other and Second through Fourth Level compete against each other. If there are less than six competitors in either section, all prize money will be distributed.
Combined Training
Both Junior/Amateur and Open divisions will be offered for all levels.
Elementary

Cross Country
$1,000 Event Challenge (Stadium, Dressage & Cross Country)
Open to horse and rider competing in all three disciplines of Eventing Classes and must be at the same level: Dressage, Stadium & Cross Country.
The lowest overall score will determine the placings. Ties will be broken by the closest optimum time in Cross Country. If those two times are equal, then we will go to the closest optimum time in Stadium Jumping and if those two are equal, a tie will be the result. You must compete in all three disciplines of the same level. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st-6th place. If fewer than 10 riders, the purse becomes a 100% Add Back.
Prize money will be distributed as follows: 1st-50%, 2nd- 20%, 3rd- 15%, 4th- 10%, 5th– 5%.
Western
Both Junior/Amateur and Professional divisions will be offered for Basic Level and Level 1. Introductory Level is open only to Junior/Amateurs. Western Dressage Depending on entries, court sizes may be changes within the parameters of WDAA regulations. Barrel Race
Open to all riders. To be shown with English or Western tack.
Course: Three barrels shall be placed in a triangle formation spaced as closely as possible to the suggested course shown below.
Event: Ride to barrel #1, circle it to the right, ride to barrel #2, circle it to the left, ride to barrel #3, circle it to the left and ride across the finish line. Or, cross start line and ride to barrel #2, circle it to the left, ride to barrel #1, circle it to the right, ride to barrel #3, circle it to the right, and ride across the finish line.
Rules: Penalties – a. Five-second penalty for each barrel knocked over. b. five-second penalty for using hand, arm, or leg to steady or right a fallen barrel.
Pole Bending
Open to all riders. To be shown with English or Western tack.
Course: Six poles shall be placed in a straight line, spaced 21′ apart with the first pole being 21′ from the start/finish line.
